Cod must be the best known of all the fish swimming around our coasts. When it comes to Wreck Fishing Cod are invariably the top target species. These fish can be caught all year round at anchor or on the drift, using baits and artificial lures. The best time of year for the large catches is during the months of April until October when the fish congregate on the deep-water wrecks seeking a place of refuge. In the latter part of the year the fish move inshore and can be caught at anchor using baits

Tackle required: Tackle varies due to different methods of fishing. Fishing on the wrecks in the summer cod can be taken on redgills and jelly works using the tackle described for Pollack. They will also fall to bait intended for Ling and Conger when 50 lb. class gear is used.
